About Us

Welcome to Potpourri Cafe, a cosy and charming café with a rich history and unique atmosphere. We are excited to be the newest owners of this beloved establishment, which has been serving delicious, healthy meals for around 40 years. The exact date of when it first opened is a bit of a mystery, but what we do know is that it was started by a group of people who used to attend yoga at a nearby leisure centre and were looking for somewhere to go for a healthy meal afterwards.

Potpourri Cafe has had many owners since then, but it has always been a place where people come to relax, catch up with friends, and enjoy a good meal. We regularly have people come in saying they used to work here while at university or know of someone who worked here. Just recently, a man brought his elderly mother in while visiting from Australia she had worked here 30 years ago and enjoyed having a look around the kitchen etc.

One of the things that make Potpourri Cafe so unique is its decor. The original owners found all the church fittings and the stained glass window at a local demolition yard and purchased it all for $200. These fixtures were originally from the Little Sisters of the Poor chapel, which gives the café a unique and interesting atmosphere. Many bentwood chairs are still the original, adding to the cafe’s charm and character.

Additionally, many people come in and say they used to attend parties in the basement under the cafe back in the late seventies. It’s quite a surprise for people to know that the café had a different use in the past.

At Potpourri Café, we are committed to providing our customers with a warm and welcoming atmosphere, delicious and healthy food, and excellent service. We look forward to serving you and creating new memories at our café.
